Day 23: Sunday 15 April (9.30pm, Ayr)
Strangely, the day of rest was unexpectedly busy today.
Shelley and I made our way back from Airlie early this morning. We both had things to do and didn’t want to be driving back late in the day. I walked in the door around 10.30am and thought I would spend the day fine tuning the RAP and maybe working through some other pieces of work that were still hanging on, go for a walk, do my washing, blah, blah, boring things anyway.
I ended up chatting to the only other person in the motel complex – Shay, our cleaner. It began with me looking for coins for the washing machine and ended up with me making beds, restocking the towels, emptying bins, filling cutlery and crockery drawers – everything except the floors! It was fun because it was a novelty and Shay spent the two or three hours I was with her telling me how she’d filled in all the 51 years of her life and she’s done an awful lot, so I didn't need to say too much. However, at 2pm I decided I really should go and do some of my own work, so bid my farewell and left Shay to finish cleaning.
I made a start on that work of mine, but got distracted about an hour later when I noticed Ray had returned. I really wanted to get that load of washing on, so went out to see him to get the coins I needed. Well, I got the washing on alright, but with his wife away and lots of jobs to be done around the motel, I willingly jumped in to help him out with a couple of minor tasks. Of course, you know me, and so the little tasks led on to bigger ones and the hours really just got away with us – it’s a 24/7 job running a motel! A few visitors later and it was 8.30pm when I finally made my way back to my room (with a delicious dinner of steak in Ray’s famous onion gravy in hand!) and decided that I was too tired to do any thinking after all. It’s tough enough keeping up to date with this blog!
Well, I keep meeting great people and today was no exception, but no photos to share and you’ll be pleased to read that that’s enough waffle from me for now, because I’m boring myself, let alone you, good reader, so, until tomorrow ... :)
